Ryanair switch fails to attract more passengers to Prestwick
0 Comments | Herald, The; Glasgow (UK), Nov 14, 2009 | by DAMIEN HENDERSON
NO-FRILLS airline Ryanair has failed to lure passengers away from Glasgow Airport with its winter schedule at Prestwick, figures published yesterday suggest.
The Ayrshire airport recorded a 28per cent year-on-year fall in passengers last month after Ryanair, its main carrier, dropped three European routes in favour of sunshine destinations in the Mediterranean and Canaries, bringing it into direct competition with airlines based at Glasgow International.
Ryanair announced in July that it would end flights from Prestwick to Frankfurt Krakow and Stockholm from October. It put on new routes to Alicante, Lanzarote, Las Palmas and Palma last month and stepped up routes to Faro, Malaga and Tenerife – routes flown by Flyglobespan and easyJet from Glasgow.
BAA, which owns Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports announced his week that Glasgow had seen a 9per cent reduction in passengers in October, while Edinburgh had enjoyed its seventh consecutive month of growth.
But, more worryingly for aviation prospects in the west of Scotland, the downturn appears not to have come about as a result of increased competition with Prestwick but the continuing slump in air travel.
Around 152,000 passengers flew from Prestwick Airport in October.
The aviation slump led owners Infratil to axe more than 100 posts earlier this year – a quarter of the workforce.
A spokesman for the company yesterday put a brave face on last month’s figures, saying that advance bookings were strong and the downturn was “in line with recent trends”.
Graeme Sweenie, Prestwick Airport’s chief commercial officer, said: “2009 has certainly been a challenging year for the airport but our underlying position and future prospects are excellent.”
And he predicted that the airport would see a return to growth by mid-2010

She was out of the room like a cheetah with a rocket up its… well, anyway…
Have you ever heard anyone say ‘poor little spider, it’s more afraid of you than you are of it’? Ah yes – that old chestnut. Well, apparently it’s true. I’m told they don’t like our body heat. That’s why when you try and pick one up out of the bath (assuming you’re capable of doing so without becoming a quivering lump of jelly and leaving the bathroom in the manner of aforementioned rocket propelled cheetah) you end up chasing them around with your hand and uttering absurdities like ‘there we go my little friend, come on, come to Mummy, I’ll find you a nice little rock in the garden to crawl under. Here boy, here boy.’ Or perhaps you just flush them down the plug hole with the shower.
Phobias, fears – things that go bump in the night, these are the things that make our skin ‘crawl’ .Perhaps spiders are your thing, maybe heights, maybe enclosed spaces. All of these so called phobias can range from an inconvenience to literally a life destroying fear.

One food
may take hundreds of different types of enzymes for the body to digest.
Food is naturally filled with enzymes, called ?food enzymes?, that help us to digest
that food. The problem is that when we cook or process it, we kill those enzymes. Temperatures over 118 degrees will destroy the enzymes. A good example of this is
pineapple, which has some very powerful digestive enzymes in it. These enzymes
work so well that when added to gelatin (like Jell-O), the enzymes won?t allow the
gelatin to thicken. So, the only kind of pineapple you can add to gelatin is canned
pineapple, which has been cooked and processed so that all the enzymes have been
destroyed. It is now safe to add to gelatin, but not as good for your body.
Our body can manufacture enzymes, called ?digestive enzymes?, in pancreas. But
when we eat a diet that is filled with mostly cooked and processed foods, depleted
of enzymes, the pancreas is forced to work much harder than it was meant to,
manufacturing the enzymes the body needs to digest these foods.

People enjoy networking with interesting, purposeful individuals.
Dress for Success (http://www.your-career-change.com/Dress-for-success.html) at a business networking meeting as you would if you were going to an interview or a meeting with your most important client.
If you spend all your time with contacts you?ve already made, you limit the value of the event; so the majority of your time should be spent meeting new people. Networking meetings enable you to expand your contact list if you use your time well.
Do your best to remember the new contacts? names; we only tend to hear our own name when introductions are made so repeating their name will help you to remember it. And they like to hear their own names. Furthermore people will be most impressed when you remember their name the next time that you meet.
Only collect a lot of business cards if you have good reason for each one and they allow you a follow-up action.

You want to be sure to have an assortment of beautiful flowers and plants of varying heights as well as shapes and textures when planning your garden.
Organic gardening requires much more attention and involvement in the whole process. When you grow the plants organically, you do not add any artificial or chemical substances to the soil to avoid their negative health consequences. In organic gardening natural compost is needed to fertilize the soil. Natural compost is derived from plant, fruit or kitchen waste and contains no harmful chemical pesticides in it.
Whether you go for container gardening or organic gardening, the preparation and gardening methods are pretty similar. After you decide on what type of gardening you want to do, prepare your spot and soil for planting. You must remove all weeds, grass, stones, etc using various gardening supplies or herbicides. When this is completed, you can plow the planting area and add nutrients such as manure, compost, peat or sand to the soil. If your soil is too sandy, you will need to add compost to give it the necessary nutrients it needs.
Gardening supplies are essential for good gardening.

AFP, July, 2010
NEW DELHI (AFP) Mergers are the only way forward in India’s crowded mobile phone market, where 14 operators are slugging it out for subscribers by offering the cheapest rates in the world, analysts say.
On the face of it, business is booming in a market that is growing at a staggering rate, with between 16 and 20 million new subscribers signing up every month.
In the past year alone, the number of mobile customers soared 49 percent to 617.5 million, meaning that 55 out of every 100 Indians now has a mobile — compared with just three out of 100 in 2000.
But those figures hide a much tougher market reality.
Competition has cut call costs to far below one US cent a minute and a recent auction for superfast third-generation (3G) wireless spectrum saw operators…

Got a spa moment?

One in six people can’t remember the last time they had a bath, according to a new study. No, not that they don’t wash – they do shower! But busy modern life means women are skimping on pampering time, just hopping into the shower to scrub up in seconds. And pampering experts at the Sanctuary Spa in Covent Garden, London, understand. While they reckon we should all spend a little more time luxuriating and winding down, they know it’s not always possible for busy mums and working women.
So their great shower range is designed to have the same luxury effect as a long, hot soak in just a few minutes. Perfect for girls who want smooth, buffed and sweet-smelling skin but don’t have time for a day at the spa, the range starts from, pounds 5.99

SL Releases RTView for APM | Oracle Coherence Monitor Solution
0 Comments | Wireless News, Jul 27, 2010
SL Corporation announced the introduction of its RTView for APM | Oracle Coherence Monitor solution which includes an enhancement for monitoring large and very large Oracle Coherence clusters, enabling a reduction in overhead on the cluster and problem identification and resolution.
According to SL, a new custom MBean available with the SL’s Oracle Coherence Monitor reduces the overhead associated with the standard JMX MBean collection process, speeding the monitoring interval to as low as 10 seconds for large Oracle Coherence clusters. More efficient monitoring means problem detection, alerting and resolution, further minimizing the impact of data grid issues on critical applications.
“For many Oracle Coherence customers, including online retailers, web sites, financial institutions and telecommunication companies, getting better visibility into their systems is crucial for understanding when a problem occurs, and for being able to prove that a system is truly running and performing as it was intended,” said Cameron Purdy, VP of development, Oracle. “SL has invested in providing higher visibility into Oracle Coherence data grids, and this latest release of RTView offers a solution to scale JMX data collection to higher levels than were previously possible.”
“Very large Coherence clusters are going mainstream as more customers gain confidence in Coherence and experience the benefits of data grids,” said Tom Lubinski, president and CEO of SL. “We collaborated with several customers who are running extremely large Coherence clusters to address this overhead problem.”
Due to its distributed nature, monitoring a large Coherence cluster can involve the collection of tens of thousands of individual, real-time data metrics using the JMX protocol. The metrics from each cluster member must all be collected and transferred at a single point in time to provide a consistent snapshot that accurately describes the state of the cluster

Grant for shower fix ‘a blessing’ to West Deer family
0 Comments | Tribune – Review / Pittsburgh Tribune – Review, Jul 8, 2010 | by Jodi Weigand
A new grant program for the disabled will help a West Deer family transform its traditional bathtub into a walk-in shower with a bench and safety rails.
Bonnie Wilczynski said the family’s shower is too small and a little bit scary for her son, Austin, 16, who has multiple disabilities, including cerebral palsy. He has trouble getting in and out of the tub and has slipped a couple of times, she said.
The family plans to use $1,500 from the New Story Fund to make the improvements this summer. Without the money, the most they could have done was attach a few safety rails, said Wilczynski, 49.
“Hopefully, this new shower will be large enough to move around, and it won’t be so slippery,” she said.
The Wilczynskis are among 23 Pennsylvania families to be the first to benefit from the New Story Fund, a part of New Story, a for- profit company that operates 10 schools and 17 program and services facilities across Pennsylvania for children with serious or complex disabilities. The fund, announced in February, will award up to $25,000 twice a year to Pennsylvania families, with a $1,500 maximum per family.
An affiliation with New Story is not required and grants are available to children with any type of disability, including emotional, behavioral or educational.
“The application was so easy to fill out (because) I didn’t have to have six doctors’ notes and health insurance denials,” Wilczynski said. “Anytime you try to do anything, even simple things, it’s such a hassle. … So something like this is such a blessing.”
That was the idea behind the New Story Fund, said Tara Koretz, the company’s director of development.
“Tell us your story, tell us your need, so that we can help you,” she said
